Recent works

My art these days tend to be more emotional then anything. It really depends on the mood I am in. My best work tends to come when I am not on a schedule, but just feel like painting. I also work very fast. Most of the pieces below were completed within 2-3 days. If I have an idea I like to just blurt it out as fast as I can so it stays fresh. I will also work as large as I can. I love murals and you will see most of them further down, but I like larger canvanses over small.

So, color and texture are the names of the game. I go with what I think looks good and nothing else. An emotion may come to mind in the beginning, or it might not surface until part way through. So enjoy!

Under My Skin- some people say it looks like a sunrise over the water, but it was not really the intention. Think of the title and decide for yourself.

Under My Skin II - same theme, new canvas! Quite a bit smaller then the original, 20" by 16"

Zen Circle- 'What is love?'- My BF says this is dark, but it is supposed to be about passion and connectedness. Zen circles were traditionally painted by monks as a form of meditation. Achieving the perfect one was the goal, but one can also say they are all perfect. The character at the bottom left is the Japanese symbol for love. Don't know why I put it in, its a little corny. But I felt it belonged.

Forest in Red: Part of a series on reflections. I find my work gravitating towards the concepts of duality, reflections and the separation of two spaces. Sometimes with a theme, sometimes not, but it seems to be going this way. It's not intentional, it's just there.

Riverbank - this was another inspiration from another painting. I do not even know the artist, I saw it in a magazine once. It was just so colorful that I was drawn to it.

Pond - a texture study, I liked the 'koi in the pond' idea, but did not want to do a literal representation.

Where my dreams go. This is a small work, but I liked the 'garden path' type imagery. For some reason I could not leave it just a forest, I am looking for something more.

Which way to heaven? - it's a cloud, it's a lake, it's an abstract! Boy I must love color....

Buddha- this was inspired by my trip to Hong Kong. This is the giant Buddha on Lantau Island. In the night markets you can always find these cheesy paintings of Buddha at a dime a dozen. I love zen inspired art and design and I thought of taking one home, but I thought I could just take some photos and do a better job myself. So I did! It is supposed to be about transcendence from earth. The statue is very heavy, but its spirit is constantly going up toward the heavens. The greens represent the earthly realm.

Tori Gate - a gift for my father, because he said he liked this view out of a doorway. The tori gate is the limit between heaven and earth. You will always pass through one before entering a temple in Japan, as you pass from the earthly realm into 'heaven'. It sybolizes the transition into enlightenment.

Experiment #1 - my first texture based work. Liked it so much I never stopped!

For John and Holly - I usually think I suck at painting people so I usually don't. Holly had this painting she just loved and wanted something similar, so I did it as a favor. It took FOREVER!! More then 3 months, but I should not complain cuz I am happy with the result! Haven't thought of an actuall title yet...

Murals part 1

This post is some of my favorite mural works. I have LOTS of these so I may not post them all. Most of the work is children's rooms, but these are some of my more 'mature' pieces.

Zebras - this was in a nursery. SOOOOO Cute!!! I think anyway. ;-)

Aqueduct- this is a scene from Portugal. My mother visited there and wanted an image to remind her of the trip. The ancient structure was just the thing. This image was taken off a renaissance print.
Vineyard- this is a 'Van Gogh' style mural in a bedroom. The idea is that you are looking out a window onto the orchard. This came straight from me. Shutters were found and added at the end to make it more realistic.

Jungle - This is part of the mural I did for the Royal Alex Children's Hospital. It is on the 3rd floor in the psyc wing so you cant just walk in and see it, but I like this one a lot. It was a lot of fun, and kids pieces are always the best.

Fairy Rooms - The girls love these! Fairies for everyone!!! YAY!!

3D stuff

I have a degree in design and there are some of my fave pieces from school.

Sculpture- unnamed. This piece is owned by the univerity now and is displayed on campus. It is 12 feet tall and is painted steel.

Nesting Tables- my favorite piece of furniture from school! Designed to go next to a low-profile couch.

Ebowl - vases made from recycled bowls. They were 'made in Canda' bowls from Value Villae. You find them everywhere. I thought it was a fun way to reuse something.

Zebra Lamp - made from zebra wood. I liked the wood so much i wanted tomake something with it!

Tatoo designs

I will do one for anyone that asks. I do not have a set style, but if you have a theme you want to work with I will give it my best shot. These two are ones I designed for myself. I have yet to put one on.... to chicken I guess.

Koi- Japanese style with the sacral chakra. Represents harmony in relationships and sexual balance.

Gemini- the twins which is my symbol. The disk in the background is the phases of the moon. This was inspired by another tatoo design I found on line. I was thinking of making a whole set, so if you are a certain sign please let me know and I will work on one.
